Re: Badges for surgery

And when was the last (or first) time OSHA inspected a

hospital? We had an overexposure at our cyclotron

facility, and OSHA did not respond even when we

contacted them. We are a federal agency, and do not

come under state regulations. I assume a state agency

would have been interested.

Generally, individual states have requirements for

dosimetry issuance. I am not sure what they can do

about a physicians non-compliance. Anyone know?

In the medical field, inspections are also conducted

by the Joint Commission for the Accreditaion of Health

Care Organizations http://www.jcaho.org/. They also

have requirements for dosimetry of x-ray (or radiation

equipment) users. While the question may be asked

(but may not even be asked, depending on the surveyor)

as to whether people are badged, verification is

seldom performed. (I can only speak from my own

experiences.) A regulation without adequate

inspection is like posting a speed limit sign with

having police to enforce it.
