Re: Love Canal





Like the TMI epidemiology studies, do such epidemiology studies even have the 

ability to detect an increase in cancer?  Surely, if the off-site TMI 

estimates are correct, no epidemiology study could ever detect such an 

association even if there were one.  On the other hand, does it mean that 

cancers from Love Canal don't exist, because they can not be detected?  Even 

the New York State Department of Health's Love Canal Expert Advisory Committee 

exploring the possibility of follow-up cancers is concerned that their own 

study may not be powerful enough to detect health effects from the measurable 

exposure to Love Canal chemicals in part because of the limited sample size.
