HEALTH PHYSICIST 4
ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY & SITE ASSESSMENT (ESSAP)
RADIOLOGICAL SAFETY, ASSESSMENT AND TRAINING (RSAT)
EXEMPT, EEO-1 Category - Professional (Grade G.012)
PURPOSE: To support three RSAT managers to accomplish advanced and
complex professional health physics assignments for the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS), and other RSAT customers and to coordinate
health physics courses and present related lectures and laboratory
exercises.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
* Working directly and primarily with the Health Physics and
Technical Projects (HPTP) Manager to obtain and accomplish health
physics-related project assignments for the DOE, NRC, DHS, and other
RSAT clients, including internal/external dose assessments; ALARA
analyses; support to DOE and DHS domestic and overseas instrumentation,
lead management, and audit support programs; evaluation of radiological
data; report preparation; and performing computer-based
evaluations/calculations.
* Developing and presenting technical lectures in health physics;
coordinating designated courses; and conducting laboratory exercises in
courses.
* Developing comprehensive planning documents in support of
conducting research and investigational studies for DOE, NRC, DHS and
other federal agencies in areas such as portal monitor investigations,
instrument evaluations, environmental impact assessments, clearance cost
studies, homeland defense applications, etc.; and preparing follow-up
reports and supporting documentation.
* Supporting the Survey Projects Manager with responsibility for
leading radiological survey teams at NRC and other client sites, and
implementing Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation
Manual (MARSSIM)-based methodologies, including reviewing final status
survey (FSS) plans at investigated sites and developing and implementing
verification/confirmatory surveys.
* Performing technical reviews of documents prepared by other
organizations.
OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE:
* Assisting the HPTP manager with business development activities.
REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Health Physics and six to ten years
experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification by the American Board of Health Physics desired.
Additional requirements include extensive knowledge of health physics or
similar fields and the ability to apply radiation protection practices
to new situations, perform in-depth analysis of health physics issues
that relate to a given project, and to use the analysis to prepare new
procedures and processes. Must possess direct health physics or related
project experience and demonstrated capabilities in a wide range of
health physics or health physics-related issues, including dose
assessments, knowledge of radiation instrumentation, conduct of audits,
teaching experience, conduct of MARSSIM-based radiological surveys and
assessments, report preparation, and project/course design and
implementation. Strong verbal, communication, and computer skills
required. Must be able to plan health physics courses and deliver health
physics topics in a clear and understandable manner to course
participants. Must be a self-starter, possess leadership abilities, and
present a professional demeanor. Travel required.
