RE: News: Los Alamos closed (?)

Report Excerpt:

The Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) suspended all but essential operations effective noon July 16. This suspension was the result of several recent significant safety and security events. In an all-hands memorandum sent by the Director on July 16, at 1700, he directed all organizations to perform a point-to-point risk assessment of Laboratory day-to-day activities. He asked all managers to provide employees necessary information to comply with the suspension of work, and subsequent restart. Restart activities will be staggered using a risk-based graded approach. The duration of the suspension will depend on the formalities, complexities and risks identified in each part of the Laboratory's operations. The NNSA Los Alamos Site Office Manager will assist by providing necessary expertise to partner with the Laboratory in this process. The Director will examine critical aspects of the national security mission on a case-by-case basis and grant a limited num

News in an Austrian paper:

Nuclear Laboratory Los Alamos closed.

Albuquerque - Following a large number of safety mishaps in the American

Nuclear Research Laboratory Los Alamos (New Mexcico) director Pete Nanos has

at the weekend temporarily stopped the operation of the institution. Last

week two data carriers with information about an experiment vanished.

Recently in May the loss of data was reported, which were to be deleted.

During the most recent incident last Wednesday a technician suffered severe

eye injury during a laser experiment.

Any facts? Is it fiction?
