DUTIES: 	Assist the Radiation Safety Officer by performing

entry-level professional health physics duties for the University of

Colorado Health Sciences Center's Health and Safety Division located at both

the 9th Ave and Colorado Blvd campus and the Fitzsimons campus. Respond to

incidents involving radioactive materials. Perform bioassay measurements,

analyze the results, and prepare appropriate reports. Assist in managing the

radioactive waste generated on campus. Complete permit/license documents.

Investigate, analyze, and classify problematic waste. Track waste in a

database to ensure proper and timely disposal. Provide technical advice on

issues related to radiation safety and instrumentation. Calibrate

instruments. Document and track all instruments. Develop reports and forms

to report calibration results. Perform sources leak tests on all sealed

sources. Troubleshoot minor problems with equipment. Perform surveys,

interpret results, and initiate remedial actions necessary to remain in

compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Perform related duties as

assigned or required.

REQUIREMENTS:	Graduation from an accredited college or university with a

bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Medicine, Engineering, or a

closely related science field AND one year of professional health physics

experience. 



SUBSTITUTION:	Professional work experience that provided the same kind,

amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education may

substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. An advanced

degree in health physics may substitute for the education and the required

experience.  



HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

·	Experience working in a research and/or a biomedical field within a

radiation safety program at the professional level

·	Exceptional interpersonal skills

·	Excellent oral and written communication skills



CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

·	Must agree to and pass a background check 

·	Must pass a respiratory fit test and qualify to use respirators
