. June 23/24: Laser Safety Officer Certification course (Instructor

John Leonowich)

CRSO is a non-profit organization that is composed of university and

hospital radiation safety officers from the United States and Canada.

The goal of the organization is to give campus radiation safety

professionals the opportunity to share their experiences and expertise

by presenting frank, practical and effective solutions to the

ever-changing problems encountered in our institutional radiation safety

programs.

CRPA is Canadian organization of radiation protection professionals

similar to the Health Physics Society. The joint conference with CRPA

provides the expanded opportunity for CRSOs to take part in the CRPA

scientific Program and invited expert speakers. CRPA proposed topics are

multi disciplinary and include any paper related to the field of

radiation safety and health physics for both ionizing and non-ionizing

radiation. Proposed topics are International and Canadian regulatory

issues, EMF, lasers, security, operational radiation safety in hospitals

and academic institutions, nuclear power, fuel cycle/uranium mining, new

medical uses (PET/CT and Gamma Knife), research, environment, emergency

response preparedness, new ICRP recommendations.

The NITE OUT has a Wild West Theme (registration is separate on the web

site). For all delegates, there is a Formal Banquet as well and I have

reserved time for a CRSO/RSO Lunch/Meeting.

Keep checking the conference website for the conference information and

registration package as well as updates on keynote speakers, scientific

sessions and professional development programs.

The Venue: Winnipeg is a modern prairie city (population 650,000), with

beautiful weather in June. The conference setting is in a new hotel at

the

Forks in the heart of the city, where the waters of Red and Assiniboine

Rivers join. Archeological evidence demonstrates that the Forks

location has been a traditional meeting place for over 6000 years. The

Forks has something for everyone: beautiful river walk paths, riverboat

tours, many restaurants, a bustling marketplace, children's museum, and

street buskers.

Semi-professional baseball is located a stone's throw away. There will

be a unique opportunity to participate in a traditional sunrise summer

solstice ceremony.
