RE: The Nuclear power reactor at Kalpakkam is safe
Dr. K.S.Parthasarathy
Thank you for your swift response. I am focused on a few questions because I
am interested in how our media work - this is my only point (it is thus at
this point not about radioactivity).
1. Was MAPS-2 damaged in any sense and if so - how?
2. Was MAPS-2 shut down before or after the flood?
3. Did any water reach inside the containment or the reactor system of the
MAPS-2 or the breeder?
4. When you write that the power station was shut down - does that mean
MAPS-2 as well as the breeder reactor or only the MAPS-2?
Sincerely yours,
Bjorn Cedervall
---------------------------------
MAPS-1 was already under shut down condition from 20th August 2003 for
Enmasse Coolant Channel Replacememnt and Upgradation. MAPS-2 was working at
210 MWe when the tsunami event occurred. The power station was brought
under safe shut down condition. All nuclear installations at the site are
safe and there is no danger of any radiation release.
