This subject is an issue that is important due to the fact that labs don't always measure efficiency in the same way, or in the same way you will be doing your measurements. Examples of differences include geometry, backing materials (important for beta), matrix (attenuation), etc. You don't say exactly what your application is, but it is very important to understand the physics of what you are doing and the procedure the lab uses to determine efficiency if you really want quantification. For example, there are edge effects on detectors that may need to be considered. I seem to recall some discussion of these issues in some of the MARSSIM related NUREGS. From my standpoint, doing your own efficiency calcs is preferred to using those of others, provided you have appropriate standards. This way you have complete control over the process and interpretation of the results.

If you are really interested give me a call and we can discuss.

Harry
