HEALTH PHYSICIST 3 TEAM LEADER

ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY & SITE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (ESSAP)

RADIOLOGICAL SAFETY, ASSESSMENTS, & TRAINING (RSAT)

EXEMPT, EEO-1 Category - Professional (Grade G.011)



PURPOSE: To plan and lead small to medium size environmental and

radiological surveys, and provide technical support to the U.S.

Department of Energy (DOE) and other federal agencies in various aspects

of environmental and radiological protection. 



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE: 



*	Leading a team of one to four survey technicians in conducting

surveys at sites throughout the U.S. in accordance with established

plans and program procedures to include resolving on-site problems and

modifying procedures as necessary. 



*	Planning survey strategies; reviewing site histories and making

preliminary site visits; preparing survey plans; procuring supplies and

services; and determining schedules. 



*	Interpreting data collected by survey team and provided by the

laboratory to determine site contamination conditions; preparing

technical survey reports describing survey procedure, results and

conclusions; comparing conditions with applicable regulatory criteria;

and recommending corrective measures as appropriate.



*	Operating monitoring and sampling equipment; assuring that

instrumentation is maintained and calibrated in accordance with program

procedure; and evaluating/recommending new equipment. 



*	Performing technical reviews of documents prepared by other

organizations concerning characterization, remedial action, and final

status survey activities.



*	Assisting in determining technical staff training and

development needs including training certification and procedural

revisions and acting as spokesperson regarding sensitive environmental

contamination matters when dealing with site personnel, contractors and

the public.



REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree in Health Physics or related radiological

science field plus four to six years of related experience.  Directly

related experience with environmental monitoring techniques, basic

radiation protection and radiological decommissioning and duties

described may substitute for the education requirement.  Experience in

health physics; radiation protection fundamentals; environmental

monitoring techniques; and thorough knowledge in the application of

MARSSIM (Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual) to

site surveys required.  Must have demonstrated leadership ability and

supervisory skills.  Technical or scientific writing ability essential.

Travel required.
