ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY & SITE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (ESSAP)

RADIOLOGICAL SAFETY, ASSESSMENTS, & TRAINING (RSAT)

EXEMPT, EEO-1 Category - Professional (Grade G.010)



PURPOSE: To assist project management in planning survey strategies and

to direct on-site environmental radiation surveys, evaluate data, and

prepare reports.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE: 



*	Assisting project management in the planning of survey

strategies; making preliminary site visits; preparing survey plans;

procuring necessary supplies, equipment, and services, and recommending

schedules.

*	Directing team of one to two health physics technicians in

conducting radiological surveys in accordance with the established

survey plan and program procedures.  This will include resolving on-site

problems and modifying procedures to accommodate site-specific

situations and conditions.

*	Operating radiation detection and sampling equipment, assuring

that equipment is maintained and calibrated in accordance with program

procedures, and evaluating and recommending new equipment.

*	Analyzing data collected by survey team and provided by the

laboratory to evaluate site radiological conditions.  Preparing survey

reports, describing survey procedures, results, and conclusions, and

comparing conditions with applicable regulatory criteria.

*	Assisting in determining technical staff training and

developmental needs including training, certification and procedural

revisions.

REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in Health Physics, Radiological Science or

other related discipline and two to four years of related work

experience.  Directly related experience performing duties involving

environmental monitoring techniques and radiation protection as

described may substitute for the education requirement.  Must have

in-depth knowledge of radiation protection fundamentals and

environmental monitoring techniques.  Technical or scientific writing

ability essential.  Must have good leadership ability and supervisory

skills.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Travel required.
