HEALTH PHYSICS TECHNICIAN 2

ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY & SITE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (ESSAP)

RADIOLOGICAL SAFETY, ASSESSMENTS, & TRAINING (RSAT)

NON-EXEMPT, EEO-1 Category - Technician (Grade G.008)



PURPOSE: To calibrate instrumentation and compile necessary equipment;

perform on-site radiological field survey services; obtain and record

field data; collect samples; tabulate data, and assist in post-survey

activities relative to report preparation.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE: 



*	Measuring radiation, producing quality survey documentation,

collecting samples and other investigative tasks.  Producing accurate

graphics of survey site data.

*	Performing data reduction/tabulation and sample log-in.

Assisting in utilization and application of survey data to determine

site status.

*	Performing instrument calibration and check-out, as well as

maintenance and trouble-shooting of radiation detection instruments.

*	Maintaining an up-to-date equipment and instrumentation

inventory log.

*	Compiling, loading, and transporting equipment to and from

survey sites.  Performing site preparation, photographs and/or preparing

site drawings.

*	Performing related tasks on special health physics projects.



REQUIREMENTS:  Associate's degree in Health Physics or related

discipline and two to four years of related work experience.  Directly

related experience performing duties as described may substitute for the

Associate's degree requirement.  Higher level education beyond the

Associate's degree in the disciplines listed may substitute for the

experience requirement.  Must possess fundamental knowledge of and

skills in operating radiation detection and measuring instruments.  Must

have knowledge of various sampling techniques.  National Registry of

Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT) certification desired.  Must

be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.  Travel required.
