Hi everyone:

I had mentioned in my prior post about the Ludlum 12-12 Survey Meter Pu

Waste Estimator instrument which I've listed on eBay but did not describe

it's design. For those interested, a general description follows:

The Model 12-12 gram estimator is setup to estimate mass quantities of

fissile material in known configurations of controlled packages. It is

sensitive to directional gamma fields associated with Pu-239 or U-235 in

controlled quantities. It consists of a Ludlum 12 survey meter with a 0.5

x 1-inch NaI [sodium iodide] detector mounted underneath. The detector has

0.425-inch thick lead shielding on the sides, a lead collimnator with

33-degree tapered aperture, and a 0.0625-inch thick cadmium window on the

front. On the end of the detector is a positioning tube [4.625-inch ID x 5

inches long] that allows the detector to be placed with repeatable

geometry over a sample area.

A manual including general description, control functions, operation,

calibration, and maintenance instructions is available as a pdf file upon

request for interested parties to review. Please email me at

farbersa@optonline.net to request this manual as a pdf file.

Instrument reads out in grams of Pu. The range of readout is 0 to 50 grams

of Pu-239 or U-235.
