Why do these "garbagy" sites even exist? Get a copyright notice on your
actual site, then tell anyone copying it to cease and desist from such
activity. Of course you want other sites to link to your site since the
search engines give that a great deal of weight in how they rank pages. I
note that the "garbagy" site mentioned below is on a university computer
system; why?

I am quite sure you are just being paranoid about your problems with Google.
There are a host of reasons why the Google spiders will ignore a site or
fail to rank it highly. For starters, you have very little content the
spiders can digest. Meta tags do not help much these days, and if you want
to be shown on the first page of Google hits, you have to have the best
content on the subject at issue. Further, the spiders are wise to tricks
like white text on a white background and other attempts to fool them, and
will penalize a site for such shenanigans. The spiders cannot see the text
included in graphics, btw. To summarize, get some content on your site,
then submit the site to Google so the spiders will start visiting it again.

Finally, I would hazard a guess that you do not have much of a chance in the
marketplace as long as you use proprietary computers. Customers want
something that will run on a laptop they can buy anywhere. While I am sure
you will argue your proprietary OS is superior, you have to cater to what
customers want.

And I sure like your staff member resting on the shoe!
