Yes, this was a good learning experience. One of my coworkers got caught up
in the traffic on his way to his son's ballgame. He said that it looked like
every police car in the city was there, approximately 20, there was a
helicopter hovering, and he saw the man (the victim?) being handcuffed and
put in the back of a squad car. I like to think that they wouldn't want a
repeat of this exercise.

Au Contraire, Sandy.
"When every Tom , Dick and Harry has a radiation detector", they will, 1,
see radiation as normal, safe environment, so have less irrational panic,
2, take more interest in radiation detection, so get that TRAINING, 3, take
responsibility, as happens, in fact, with driving a car or owning an
"equalizer" (gun). Those other sources of power have resulted in safer
travel than horses and safer homes than ones depending entirely on police
protection (read Lott's data).
Training is critical, but availability of easy info, like the internet and
books (also once thought dangerous for common folk) leads to peace and
prosperity, not panic. Viva rad detectors!
