Position Title: Environmental Safety Technician II

Department: Environmental Health & Safety

Salary: $11.21

Pay Basis: Hourly

Major/Essential Duties of Job: This position is assigned to Radiological Safety and performs a wide variety of operations primarily at the School of Veterinary Medicine.  Primary duties include providing guidance and oversight to Radioactive Material/ Radiation Producing Device users and performing radiological monitoring/surveys in support of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology procedures.  Other duties include radioactive material receipt, radioactive waste pickup and processing, dosimetry issue and return, bioassay, radiation survey instrument calibration, sealed source leak tests, laboratory reviews, and radiological emergency response.  In the transportation of hazardous materials technicians may be required to walk, climb stairs, lift heavy loads, read small labels, follow verbal directions, use hand tools and don protective clothing.  The technician must be available for emergency response nights, weekends, and holidays.  Occasional travel to out of town locations requires applicants to possess a valid Texas driver's license.  The successful applicant will be exposed to radiation, handle radioactive materials, possibly exposed to other hazardous materials.  Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to use an IBM compatible computer, and the ability to use Microsoft Office products.  Other duties as required.
