This is why LEO's spend hours and hours both debating the understanding of  
the use of deadly force as well as hour upon hour on the shooting range doing  
combat shooting decision making (real bullets as well as virtual campus  with 
today's technology).
 
The decision in a civilized setting is not an easy one to make  but you MUST 
ask the question BOTH ways as the consequences for shooting  and or not 
shooting are not pretty.
