While the postings on this "incident" have been interesting, and I'm not
at liberty to get into details, the New Jersey State Police helicopters
were in the area for a legitimate purpose and were queried by security
staff at the plant according to established procedures. In short, the
systems designed to protect both the State Police personnel, the public
and the facility functioned as planned.
If anyone overreacted, it was apparently the news media.

Unidentified Helicopters Nearly Fired Upon Over Nuclear Power PlantBy
Eyewitness News
( Lower Alloways Creek Twp. N.J. -WABC, March 12, 2005) In an
Eyewitness News exclusive, there are serious security concerns this
morning
after a very close call at a nuclear power plant in New Jersey.
Two state police helicopters on a training drill were nearly fired upon
last week when they flew over the plant.
The problem: the troopers never notified the plant about the drill.

As they flew over, security forces went on high alert and were ready to
fire until they realized the choppers belonged to the state police.
Their decision not to fire is now being examined.
Jerry Hauer, security consultant: "It appeared that there was an
imminent threat, and the security forces at the power plant chose not
to
react."
Plant officials refused to explain or justify their actions.
The state police commander called the plant to apologize for the
incident. It is now under investigation.
