The article did provide an accurate detailed summary of his technical
background and expertise as well as a complete listing of his training and
experience in matters related to security. I base that evaluation on my
personal friendship with Dan back in about 1974 when we were both members
of Amnesty International in the Los Angeles area.

Many years ago the Washington Monthly magazine had a brief article about
the systemic technological illeteracy of journalists. The acccurac y of
that article's harsh evaluation has been repeatedly proven to me over the
years by direct contact with journalists as well as just by reading
articles. That article also pointed out that the ignorance is accompanied
by arrogance and disdain for technical knowledge.

That fact that the news media lends any credence at all to what Dan Hirsch
says reveals
that they must be technologically illiterate. I wonder whether technical
illiteracy is an employment
prerequisite for news reporters. or is it just a coincidence that they
generally seem to possess this
characteristic.
