PuBe source design

Brookhaven National Laboratory is searching for design and
contruction information on Pu8Be neutron sources manufactured during the
1970's by the Monsanto Research Corporation, Nuclear Products Department,
Dayton Ohio Lab, an old subsidiary of the Monsanto Company. We are
specifically looking for information and documentation stating that these
sources are DOT certified special form, or drawings showing source design and
configuration. Attempts to get this information from the Monsanto Company
have been unsuccessful.
Given below is just about all the information we have on these
sources, taken from the Monsanto shipping papers.

Source Numbers Shipment Date
MRC-N-SS-W-Pu8Be-97 6-15-70
MRC-N-SS-W-Pu8Be-98 6-15-70
MRC-N-SS-W-Pu8Be-101 11-11-70

MRC-Pu8Be-442 and 443 10-10-78

Other possibly helpful information;
Monsanto Research Corporation USAEC License No. SNM-567
Source chemical form; PuO2
Souce activity; each source approximatly 50 Ci.
Source container description: Stainless Steel, 1.50" OD X 1.50" OL

BNL also has several Cs-137 sources encapsulated according to Oak
Ridge National Laboratory reference drawing B-RD-1742 labeled "Special Cs-137
Source Assembly". These were frabicated around 1965 by ORNL. Any additional
information on the design or certification of these sources would also be
gratefully appreciated.

Any information or possible leads on these sources is needed to
remove the facilities where these sources are used from DOE "Non-Reactor
Nuclear Facility" status, which will save us thousands of dollars in
compliance requirements.
