Heat and flammables are certainly not compatable. Just two years
ago we had a group storing flammables in a drying oven underneath
their hood. A tech who did not know it was a drying oven (appar-
rently no one in the group knew) turned it on thinking he was
shutting everything off. The room flashed over when the firefighters
tried to put out the smoking mess. Lot of unhappy firefighters
that evening.
I would not suggest using heat on stuff that might ignite. I
was only suggesting that commercially available, and temperature
regulated drum heaters might help reduce the volume of plastic
trash. The heat lamps were what Roger had used. He only melted
carboys emptied of aqueous waste that were no longer suitable
to be reused.
