Subject: Announcement of DOSE-NET
Services and Information Available on DOSE-NET
August 15, 1994
DOSE-NET is produced and operated by:
Radiation Internal Dose Information Center
Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
sysop: James B. Stubbs, Ph.D
DOSE-NET provides four services relating to internal dosimetry - an
e-mail list server, mail server, anonymous file transfer protocol (ftp) and
internal dosimetry literature searches. Use the list server to ask
questions relating to dosimetry, or request a literature search. The mail
server and anonymous ftp can be used to obtain files relating to internal
dosimetry and the disclaimer form for receiving a copy of the MIRDOSE
software.
To subscribe to DOSE-NET, send a message to mailserv@orau.gov
containing "subscribe DOSE-NET" in the body of the message. This system
does not use the message or subject line for executing requests from
senders.
To unsubscribe, simply include "unsubscribe DOSE-NET" in the body of
the message.
Mail Server:
Using the mail server, DOSE-NET@orau.gov, you can ask questions of DOSE-
NET's principle pontificators of internal dosimetry: James Stubbs, Mike
Stabin, Dick Toohey or Rick Sparks. The list server is a burster, so all
questions sent to it will be shared with all other members of DOSE-NET. If
you prefer a private conversation with any member of DOSE-NET, use their
private e-mail address (stubbsj@orau.gov, stabinm@orau.gov,
tooheyr@orau.gov or sparksr@orau.gov). A listing of DOSE-NET participants
and their e-mail addresses will be available via the mail server and
anonymous ftp and updated monthly.
Mail Server and Anonymous FTP:
ORISE maintains a file server on which you can find some internal
dosimetry related files. To access these files, send a message to
"mailserv@orau.gov" and put the word "help" in the body of the message.
The mail server will send back a copy of all valid commands and a
description of each command. Alternatively, you can use anonymous FTP to
"cslab1.orau.gov" and give your internet address as the password.
The files you wish to access are located in the directory [DOSE-NET]
and its subdirectories. This is on a VMS machine and you can change to the
DOSE-NET subdirectory by typing "cd dose-net". All subdirectories can be
reached by typing the "cd" followed by the name of the subdirectory and a
<CR>.
For example, the most recent version of the listing of e-mail users
resides on the file server and may be obtained by:
cd dose-net
cd users
get userlist.dosenet filename.ext
Where "filename.ext" is the file name you wish to give the file upon
copying to your system.
Files relating to internal dosimetry calculations and MIRD techniques
can be found in the MIRD subdirectory. A listing of the files in all
subdirectories of DOSE-NET is contained in the file "contents.list" found
in the DOSE-NET directory.
Mail-FTP:
The file server will also allow you to obtain files using e-mail. Use
the SEND command in the body of your e-mail message.
SEND - Sends the requested file or files. You can specify a directory,
filename, and file type when using the SEND command. Wildcards may be
used to request multiple files. Some examples of valid send commands
are (given that the files exist):
SEND [DOSE-NET.USERS]USERLIST.DOSENET
SEND [DOSE-NET.MIRD]DISCLAIMER.TXT
and the file server will e-mail back the specified file.
Obtain the HELP file to get more details of the commands and their
parameters.
Addition of files to server:
All files will updated periodically in order to keep them current. Users
can submit files for inclusion in the DOSE-NET server by sending them to me
at:
stubbsj@orau.gov
Files sent for inclusion should pertain to internal dosimetry or issues
relating to internal dosimetry. At the present time, I prefer files that
are spreadsheets, macros, BASIC or FORTRAN source code that is public
domain and of use to users of DOSE-NET. Their will be no images available
on this system at this time.
