Description: Health physicist to monitor the use of radioactive material.
Work with other Radiation Safety Office staff in assuring compliance with
university policy and procedure and applicable federal, state and local
radiation regulations. Radiation safety responsibilities include a main campus
and a health science campus with a teaching hospital, cancer center and
biomedical research laboratories. The university operates under three
licenses, including a broad medical, a broad academic and a teletherapy
license. The position will audit research and teaching labs, run the waste
disposal program, respond to incidents involving radioactive materials and
perform other health physics duties as assigned. Minimum requirements are a
B.S. degree in health physics or related field and three years related
experience or equivalent. Thorough knowledge of current radiation regulations
and standards of practice is necessary. Familiarity with personal computer
based word processing and spread sheet software is highly desirable.
Eligibility for certification in Health Physics by the ABHP is desirable.
Applicant must be able to perform all essential job functions as identified in
the position description. Report writing and presentations to faculty require
good communication skills. Salary commensurate with experience. Applications
