We badge approximately 100 monthly film badges and
approximately 200 quarterly TLD's. Would it be worth it for
us to do are own system or just go with a setup service. We
are just planning for if we do have to find another company
or do it ourselves

Rich,

We have just gone over to TLD (here in Sydney Australia)
and purchased a Nuclear Enterprises (ex Vinten) RIALTO
TLD automatic reader (computer-based). There is a software
problem with the Personnel Dosimetry module and we have
had to process manually. NE are v-e-r-y slow to respond
(sad, since they have a reputation for high quality). We have
regretted the decision to do our own in-house processing
many times recently but we hope that we will get out money
back in the near future through (1) savings in comparison
with the national service (2) facilities for in-house TLD
research (3) processing of TLD's for third parties. There is a
lot of work involved in doing it yourself and you will need
about 50% more TLD cards than wearers (because you need
to have so many controls and pre-dosed cards for quality
control] and, finally, there's the record keeping.......
