MAP-EXTRA: ADMINISTRATIVE STUFF

Hello, Radsafers.

Attached is some info on a workshop that teaches how to use the
internet. Many of you probably know a lot of stuff that is in the
workshop, but for people like me, a relative newby, the information is
very useful. It's managed by Pat Crispen, a clever and humorous
individual at the University of Alabama. He sends out lessons once a
day, for a month, with homework, to everyone who has subscribed to his
list. The stuff is well written, easy to understand, and takes about 5
minutes per day (so far). I'm in on the workshop happening now, and am
learning lots! Well worth the effort.

The University of Alabama's mainframe computer will be off-line for
a few hours on Sunday, October 23, for what the computer center is
calling "emergency electrical work." If you ask me, it sounds like
the squirrels are back :)

The mainframe will go off-line at 8:00 A.M. CST (central squirrel
time) Sunday and will be back on-line in a few hours.

What does this mean to us and the workshop? Nothing. I just thought
it was a cute story :)

Also, the following may be of interest to your friends and co-workers:

The third Roadmap for the Information Superhighway workshop
will be the LAST Roadmap workshop in 1994! I hope that there
will be additional Roadmap workshops in 1995, but at this
point in time there are no concrete plans.

The third Roadmap workshop will begin Thursday, October 27, and
subscriptions to the third workshop will be closed the night
before. No new subscriptions will be accepted after the list
     is closed.

Subscriptions for the third workshop are being handled by an
automatic computer program. To subscribe to the third Roadmap
workshop, please send an e-mail letter to LISTSERV@UA1VM.UA.EDU
     with the command

               SUBSCRIBE ROADMAP YOURFIRSTNAME YOURLASTNAME

in the body of your letter. Please note: replying to the letter
that you are reading right now will *NOT* subscribe you to the
workshop. You must send a *NEW* letter to LISTSERV@UA1VM.UA.EDU
with the command SUBSCRIBE ROADMAP YOURFIRSTNAME YOURLASTNAME
in the BODY of your letter to be subscribed to the workshop.

(Note: the third Roadmap workshop is simply a repeat of the first
two Roadmap workshops. If you are subscribed to either of the first
two workshops, it is not necessary for you to subscribe to the
     third workshop)
