Clinical Physicist Position available

I recently announced the creation of a new medical physics faculty
position at the University of Kentucky. Now I wish to announce that a position
has become available for a clinical medical physicist. The position
requires a Masters degree in medical physics. Several years of experience
is desirable, as is ABR certification. Candidates without post-graduate
experience will be considered, however.

The job involves primarily clinical work; participation in the department's
QA programs, machine calibration, acceptance testing and commissioning
of new equipment, some treatment planning, and review of the work
performed by the dosimetrists. Participation in the department's research
activities will be encouraged.

New equipment to be installed in the department includes two linear
accelerators, a CT scanner with virtual simulation capabilities, a 3-D
treatment planning computer, an HDR remote afterloader, and a dedicated
accelerator for intra-op therapy. The candidate will join a physics
division consisting of seven physicists, three dosimetrists, and
additional support personnel. The department operates training programs
in medical physics (leading to the MS degree), a medical physics
residency program, a radiation oncology residency program, and a therapy
technology program. Participation in all of these training programs
will be encouraged.

The department provides physics services to three satellite facilities,
each of which has one linear accelerator. The candidate will be expected
to take part in providing these services.

A total of about 1,100 new patients are seen each year, and about 150
patients are treated each day, when all four facilities are considered.

Lexington is located in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, and is
surrounded by picturesque horse farms. Numerous state and national parks
exist nearby, providing ample opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking,
and camping. Louisville and Cincinnatti are each 1-1/2 hours drive away.

The University of Kentucky is an affirmative action/equal opportunity
employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
