Qualifications for RSO

1. Rodney Ice, et al., are right on citing 10CFR835 for Health
Science Institutional (Medical Program Licensees) requirements.

2. I well remember in the late 1980s being required to specifically
cite the part of the "new" 10CFR835 for each person eligible to use
byproduct material. This included the RSO, various levels of
diagnostic nuclear medicine, and radionuclide radiotherapies
qualifications for physicians before they could be approved as users
for those specific parts by the institutional Radiation Safety
Committee (and where necessary by the NRC or Agreement State). This
caused a lot of consternation and records checking (some of which was
already going on because of the JCAHO set up medical QA credentialing
crisis) for training hours and certificates by the house staff!
