Asking for help on take-home exam problems

I saw a request for help on a "shielding project" mailed to the DOSE-NET
email list and recogized the question as probably coming from George
Chabot's (U-Mass-Lowell) shielding midterm exam. I've confirmed that the
question is from his exam and would like to let people know that George is
against the idea of his students tackling projects this way. Being an
ex-student of that same class, I agree that the best way to really learn
shielding is to get together in groups with the other students and work it
out together. I know I learned much more in groups than I could have if I
had had someone to just show me how to do it. I am requesting on George's
behalf that people don't offer any solutions to exam questions. This would
be an unfair advantage to other students who may not have email capabilities.
It also doesn't help the student learn how to solve these problems on his/her
own, which he/she will have to do once he/she has a job following graduation.

Thanks for your cooperation.
