4/18/95 Barnwell Update

On almost a daily basis the Columbia SC newspaper The State publishes 
an article on the Barnwell situation.  Due to copyright restrictions
I cannot send copies; however, I will summarize the articles.   
The State newspaper 4/18/95 article titled "Barnwell Proposal Confuses
Compact"
Rep from Southeast Compact Commission  said many generators are calling
to find out the facts.  Much of this is still in the rumor stage.

Univ. NC political scientist (specializing in regional waste compacts) said
..Everyone is making all this up as they go along.

2/3 Compact Commission required to accept waste from outside of compact and
sanction member states (NC). 

Some NC legislators are considering site completion and exclude the other 
seven Southeast Compact States.

May 2 Southeast Compact Commission meeting.
