Re: No subject given

There was an article published in Science Magazine on Feb. 24, 1995 called
"Alternatives to S-35 as a Label for the Differential Display of Eukaryotic
Messenger RNA". The article also dicussed the potential contamination and
volatility of alpha-[S-35]dATP with the use of PCR cyclers. Unfortunately the
article did not discuss quantities of material being volitized or contamination
results. They simply concluded that the units should be used in a fume hood so
that the researchers would be adequately protected. They didn't seem to want to
address the issue of release of materials to the environment. :-) The article
is also recommending using P-33 as a replacement.

Does anyone have valid data about S-35 airborne radioactivity from heating proc
esses in biological/medical research, e.g. incubators, lyophilizers, PCR therma
l cyclers, etc.?
