Jim Toscas, ANS Executive Director
"Meeting the Challenges of the Future Together"
Jim was appointed as Executive Director in June 1992 by the Society's Board
of Directors. He has over 18 years experience in management of nuclear
reactor design, operation , and regulatory compliance. BA Physics - Univ. of
Chicago, 1972; and MSNE - Univ. of Illinois, 1974. He is a registered PE in
Illinois.
Toscas began at the Dresden Nuclear Power Station of Commonwealth Edison in
1974. He moved to the corporate organization where he developed
standardized training programs. Following TMI, he was instrumental in
establishing the utility's central training organization. He joined the PI
Department as principal spokesperson on nuclear issues. He was actively
involved in major corporate activities having public impact
In 1985 Toscas joined Impell. He developed and managed business units
providing technical consulting to utilities and other large Midwest
corporations. He managed projects in several areas, including
organizational analysis, plant technical support, emergency preparedness,
computer services and environmental services. Moving to California in 1990,
Toscas managed the systems engineering and licensing division at the Oakland
headquarters of Cygna Energy Services.
He has been an ANS member since 1973, beginning with the University of
Illinois student branch. He was Chicago Section Chair and a member of the
Public Information and Local Sections Committees
Toscas and his wife Stacey, who teaches English Literature at Senn
Metropolitan Academy, are natives of the Chicago area. They have four
children and live in Northbrook, Illinois.
