HPS and the internet

To all you radsafers:

As President of the Health Physics Society, I invite your input and
suggestions on what you would like the Health Physics Society to do, and
not to do, regarding better HPS use of cyberspace. I did promise the
membership in one of my "campaign planks" to implement broader and
significant use electronic media for the benefit of our members. It is
clear that there are issues of intellectual property rights, concerns over
the domains of our Journal and Newsletter and other issues with technical,
financial and legal implications. Also the simple issue of avoiding
unnecessary duplication or conflict with other groups. And the list goes
on.

That said however, I intend to lead our Society significantly forward into
the information revolution and ask your help. One unique issue has been
raised; that of distinguishing informal and often unusual chatter on the
internet vs things that might be considered "official" material, authorized
by our Society.

As some of you may have already addressed one or more of these and other
related issues, any wisdom and experience you wish to share with me will
be appreciated, whether to me personally or over the network. I am working
with our Society leadership and John Billett, our Director of Public
Affairs, to develop a phased action plan for the Society which will
hopefully bring a new level of service to our membership.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Marvin Goldman,
President, Health Physics Society
