The drum contents are likely to be largely vanadium, with a touch of uranium
contamination.  My recollection is that these two elements frequentlyl share
the same geological deposits.

Re your LSC data - Be careful how you interpret the "peak energies" from the
LSC pulse height distribution.  Alpha particles of 4 MeV (4000 keV) energy
produce only about 10% of scintillation light output compared to beta
particles of the same energy.  This means that your 400 keV peak may
represents a potential total energy deposition of a 4 MeV alpha particle!
And, that would be consistent with uranium plus progeny presence.
