Re: Cornflake Health Physics

Look on the bright side - at least you in the states have an HP
certification/accreditation process, however flawed it may be. We have no
such program in Australia although I think that one is in the works. The
sooner we get one the better in my view.

I don't think a degree automatically translates to competency in a
particular area. It seems that the controlling body of the HP certification
process up there is "fence-sitting" to some extent. They should decide if
the criteria for certification are competency and experience in health
physics demonstrated by the successful participation in written and
practical examinations and a review of the applicants work experience or
having the right pieces of paper hanging on the wall. I believe the former
should be the case and I DO have the right pieces of paper on my office wall
(I have a BAppSc(Physics) and a Grad Dip App Sc (Medical Physics)).

Just a thought from Down-Under!!
