Re: clarification re unknowm waste
When I worked at the Naval Medical Research Institute, any and all
waste being afforded to me had to be accompanied with a manifest
(radionuclide, radioactivity) before it would be processed for burial.
This included dry solids, liquids and animal carcasses. That was the
responsibility of the principal investigator. It was the same system
of accountability for radioisotope possession and use. You receive a
certain amount and therefore you are required to tell me what you did
with each micorcurie. It worked for me. Accountability. That is the
key....mike coogen

I need to clarify the fact that we know the items in the drum, namely
gloves, paper towels, irradiated sample holders, etc.
What we need to characterise is just the isotopes and activities.
Obviously the activity is very low. It is not practical to put down an
exact activity when these kind of items are thrown into rad trash by the
researchers.
