  I agree with the responses that have been posted on the Yucca 
Mountain question.  There is one other point that is often overlooked.

  The radioactive waste will exist somewhere, whether it goes to Nevada 
or stays where it is.  Even if you assume that there is a tiny bit
of risk associated with it (and I think it is minimal), leaving it 
where it is now (at the reactors) does nothing at all to remove or 
reduce the risk.  In fact, it makes more sense consolidate the waste
and put it underground in a remote area rather than leaving it at the
present locations.  If the activists prevent the waste from being 
stored in a permanent underground location, they have done nothing
at all to reduce whatever risk they claim exists.
