Re: URGENT REQUEST - ANSI Z5

        Reply to: RE>URGENT REQUEST - ANSI Z535.1
The secretariat for the Z535 series of standards is the National Electrical
manufacturers Association (NEMA) at:

2101 L Street, N. W.
Suite 300
Washington, DC 20037-1580
(202) 457-8400

Standard Z535.1 specifies colors only, Z535.2 gets down to business:
"2.1 Scope This standard establishes requirements for a uniform visual system
of identification related to potential hazards in the environment..."

Standard Z535.3 gives guidance about symbols. On page 8 they show an "Abstract
three bladed object" (rendered in magenta in days of yore) and a "Radiating
sunburst and line" (rendered in red in days of yore) and on page 9 they show an
abstraction called "the radiator".

This is plainly a universal system (at least in the USA). Unfortunately, ANS
and HPS don't show up as participants. ASSE was represented in the Z535
process.

It is significantly different from ISO 3864 and, given the emergence of the
world economy, those differences need to be resolved.

Fellow Collegues:

I'm in DRASTIC need to know if ANSI/NEMA Z535.1-1991 specifies a color
scheme for the radiation system. Does anyone have a copy of the reference
and is willing to let me know what it specifies?

Our library and our IHS CD-ROM set both don't include this standard. Any
help is appreciated.
