There is some monitoring of natural radioactivity by government
agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency. There is
a drinking water program which requires the states to monitor
water supplies for certain types of radioactivity. The EPA radon
program also falls in this category. In my judgement the amount
of monitoring is about what is needed. Most major countries have
similar monitoring programs.
