Alex's acute exposure (or short-term chronic exposure of
sufficient magnitude to overwhelm cellular repair capacity)
leading to cellular death on a fairly large scale (tissue
systems) is the real problem.  The spontaneous rate
of DNA errors is irrelevant in exposure scenarios of this
magnitude (and not very relevant to the LNT model discussion
for occupational workers since high dose effects do fit
certain models fairly well) where causation of a malignancy
over 20-30 years is not the problem, but acute somatic
effects are!
