patients: 34104
age at administration with mean and range: 43(1-75) years
followup with mean and range: 24 (5-39) years
thyroid dose with mean and range: 1.1 (0.0-40.5) Gy
observed/expected thyroid cancers: 67/49.1
standardized incidence ratio with 95% CI: 1.35 (1.05-1.71)
Excess incidence confined to patients referred because of suspected thyroid
tumors, and not related to radiation dose, time since exposure or age at
exposure. Note that tumors developing within 5 years of exposure were
excluded from analysis.
"the slight excess of thyroid cancer thus appeared to be due to the underlying
thyroid condition and not the radiation exposure"

If you don't like the cost of the journal, join the Radiation Research
Society, and then you can get it real cheap. Full Membership costs $65/yr,
Assoc $35/yr, and with either you can get the journal for $68/yr (US, Canada,
Mex?) or $98/yr (elsewhere).
