Radiation disease

Hello Radsafers,

A retired physician, who is reasonably pro-nuclear but is troubled 
by his lack of knowledge on the subjects of safety and health 
implications, has asked us for some background information
on radiation sickness.  He is particularly interested in 
pathogenesis, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment as well as in any 
current research in the field.  Can anyone receommend good references 
suitable for a medical person?
