THE ROBERT S. LANDAUER, SR. MEMORIAL LECTURESHIP

The Western Regional Landauer Memorial Lecture Award was established
in 1973 by R.S. Landauer, Jr. & Co. (now Landauer, Inc.) in honor of
Robert S. Landauer, Sr. One Memorial Lectureship is now awarded each
year, alternating between a Western Regional award and an Eastern
Regional Award. The purpose of these awards is to encourage
interaction between medical physicists and health physicists, and to
memorialize Robert S. Landauer, Sr. by bringing a speaker of merit who
would not normally be available to speak at a local meeting, but who
would come because of the extra scope of the lectureship. This award
carries a $400 honorarium, and all expenses of the speaker are paid
     for by Landauer, Inc.

Robert S. Landauer, Sr., was best known as a teacher of radiological
physics and, in this capacity, did much to assist and encourage
physicians now practicing radiology, dermatology, and internal
medicine. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Chicago, and
received his Ph.D. in 1921. Dr. Landauer taught radiological physics
at the Northwestern University Medical School from 1950 until his
death in 1966. In 1965, he was elevated to Professor Emeritus. Dr.
Landauer served as Chief Physicist for Standard X-Ray Company from
1922-1932 and operated his own consulting service from 1932-1954.
In 1954, he associated with Cook County Hospital where he did
considerable work in Nuclear Medicine, including the study of
emphysema using Kr-85. Dr. Landauer was a Diplomate, American Board
of Radiology, and a Fellow, American College of Radiology.

Previous recipients of the Western Regional Landauer Memorial Lecture
     Award are:

     1974 Karl Z. Morgan, 1985 Clarence Lushbaugh, 1975 Harold E. Johns,
     1986 John Harley, 1976 John R. Cameron, 1987 Michael Phelps, 1977 F.
Herb Attix, 1988 Merrill Eisenbud, 1978 Robley D. Evans, 1989 Donald
     Kerst, 1979 Lauriston S. Taylor, 1990 John W. Poston, Sr., 1980
     Bernard L. Cohen, 1991 James A. Purdy, 1981 Rosalyn S. Yalow, 1992
     Charles Meinhold, 1982 Robert Loevinger, 1993 David W. O. Rogers, 1983
     Herbert M. Parker, 1994 Robert L. Brent, 1984 Edward Webster, and 1995

     PREVIEW OF DR. AMOL'S PROGRAM

Dr. Howard I. Amols of Columbia University will present his lecture
entitled, "Physics and Dosimetry for Endocardial (and Intravascular)
Brachytherapy or: Eat all the cholesterol you want--Help is on the
     way."

Dr. Amols received his B.S. in Physics from The Cooper Union and his
M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Brown University. He is
currently Professor of Clinical Radiation Oncology and Public Health,
and Director of Radiation Oncology Physics at Columbia University. He
is active in the AAPM, Chairman of the ABMP General Medical Physics
Examination Panel and a member of the AAPM Task Group No. 60 on
Intravascular Brachytherapy Physics. Dr. Amols is an Associate Editor
of Medical Physics and a member of the RAMPS Raphex Committee. His
research interests include intravascular brachytherapy physics,
treatment plan optimization, radiation dosimetry and microdosimetry,
     and stereotactic radiosurgery.
