Food Irradiation

Howdy:

A couple of minor additions to what has been said already:
Vindicator changed its name to Food Technologies Inc. a year or so
ago. Their plant is in Mulberry just outside of Tampa but their
offices are in Plant City. The latter might (or might not) be the
best place to go for general info. The RSO is Fred Harris and he is
in Mulberry.

I might be wrong, but I don't think Food Tech Inc does much with
spices. I think other facilities e.g. in New Jersey, doing that. I
believe, on real iffy recollection, that Food Tech. Inc. primarily
traffics in fruits (e.g. strawberries) and poultry.

I've heard that another non-spice food irradiator may be in the works
out west funded by a company called New Horizon Technologies.

Maybe some of the U.S. military gals/guys can provide more
info/correct this but I understand that some of the military MRE
(meals ready to eat) are irradiated at facilities in the U.S. and
Canada. I was told that this irradiation is done with an accelerator
rather than a gamma source.
