Another Pioneer Has Passed Away...

In the February 20, 1996 San Jose Mercury News, the following
was noted (no byline given):

    "DESSAUER, Gerhard, 85, a German-born physicist who
worked on the Manhattan Project, which created the
first atomic bomb; Feb. 11 in Savannah, Ga. He did
postgraduate work at the University of California
and the University of Rochester and was in charge of
radiation monitoring for the first postwar bomb tests
at Bikini Atoll in 1946. He later joined General
Electric Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in
    Schenectady, N.Y."

Dessauer's name is frequently encountered when reviewing
the dosimetry records for Operation Crossroads, the first
Pacific Oceanic atmospheric nuclear test series held at
Bikini Atoll during the summer of 1946.
