specific activity is greater than 70 Bq/gm (0.002 uCi/gm). If so the DOT
definition of radioactive material (49 CFR 174.403) applies.
This means that a lot of exempted material still has to be shipped as
radioactive material in accordance with 49 CFR. Most of these can be shipped as
limited quantity (49 CFR 173.421) or instruments and articles (49 CFR 173.424).
In these instances, specification packaging, marking, labeling, shipping paper
and certification requirements do not apply.
Don't get into the trap thinking since it is exempt DOT regs don't apply!!!
