I've been through all 3 editions of Cember: 
 
1st edition in 1970, when I started graduate study in health physics 
 
2nd edition in 1985, when I studied for the ABHP certification exam 
 
3rd edition: I just purchased and am looking at. 
 
The 3rd edition is definitely the best.  Those annoying typos seem to be under 
control, and the layout and book quality seem improved.  I have always liked 
Herman's writing style and his ability to provide a readable yet substantial 
introduction to the subject.  The primary substantive change seems to be an 
updating of the topics to reflect changes in regulations and methodologies.  I 
also appreciate his consideration in publishing the book in paperback, at a 
reasonable cost.  I'm tired of $100 books. 
 
Don't sit there contemplating; just go out and buy it!
