Re: Fume hood - responses

Robert
I have lost your original query. I don't know whether the
intended use is as an HP unit only facility or multi -user
facilty for institutional research groups. I don't recall whether
your initial query indicated the use of a such a fume hood would
include radioiodinations. If this were the case, a HEPA/charcoal
filtered hood is neccesary to minimize environmental releases. The
HEPA filter is inplace to prolong the life of the charcoal filter.
I would also suggest stainless steel for an iodination facility.
The facility can also be used for 3H2O and 3H sodium borohydride
experiments without adverse impact on the filter media.
A glove box may also be a less expensive alternative. They are
available with/without HEPA/Charcoal filtration. There are
limitations due to the size of the workspace however.
If you are interested in further details please feel free to
respond as indicated below.

Thanks to those who are responding to my request for info to justify
a fume hoo >d in a HP lab. My sense and my staff's sense is that a
fume hood is needed BUT >I have to justify the expense and so I need
strong points. If you have not resp >onded yet get on the bandwagon.
The more support I can get the better my case. >Thanks
