In response to Kevin Scott's request, this was developed by Ron Perry of
our Dosimetry Staff. Hope it leads you to the right place.

The device in question sounds a lot like the bulb dosimeter developed for the n
avy in 1963 by Schulman et. al. which had a perforated tin shield for energy c
ompensation which reduced the low energy response of CaF:Mn (below 100 keV) fro
m a factor of approximately 10 (relative to Co-60) to approximately 3. A respo
nse curve of the filter influence can be found in Thermoluminescence Dosimetry
Cameron et. al. 1968 including a diagram of the prototype CaF:Mn bulb dosimeter
developed at the U. S Naval Research Laboratory. The EG&G developed Caf:Mn bu
lb dosimeter developed under contract to the U.S. Bureau of Ships is described
by Cameron. The bulb dosimeter developed by Palmer for the U.S Navy was based
on the prototype by Schulman. The following works by Schulman should provide t
he information requested:

Dear Radsafers:
Does anyone know of a good reference for energy compensated CaF2 (Mn) bulb
type
TLD's, with regards to energy dependance, response, calibration procedures and
glow curve interpretation?
Thanks in Advance
Kevin Scott
