Chernobyl Article in Washington Post

Just a note: In Washington Post Today. Article on Page A-18 (Part 1 of 2)

NUCLEAR BLIGHT INVADES MINDS AS WELL AS BODIES (by J. Rupert)

Shows increases in thyroid cancer in children in former Soviet Republics.
Excerpts/quotes from Scientific American article said a comparison of
"mortality rates before and after the accident...has estimated a total of
32,000 deaths...I believe a figure in this range is defensible."

[Why not publish the "..." part]

Mention of the new phrase "Chernobyl AIDS". Paragraph reads: "I don't know
how much I got," said Nikolai Karpenko, who drove a bus around the Chernobyl
plant in the months after the accident. Like a person who has been exposed
to HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, "I only know that maybe, I could get
sick and die," Karpenko said. He snapped his fingers. "Just like that."

[I think the reporter coined the new term]

Just a note, [my opinions only]
