DOME Fire at Los Alamos Up-date

May 3 -- There have been no significant changes in the Dome Fire at Los
Alamos. The fire no longer is spreading and firefighters continue to
work to build a
containment boundary (cleared zone) completely around the fire. The
fire is more than 75%
contained and full containment now is expected by Sunday or Monday,
contingent on the
weather remaining favorable. As soon as full containment is
achieved, firefighters will
concentrate on controlling the fire (widening the cleared zone to
150 feet), which will take
several more days. The fire to date has burned more than 16,600 acres.

The fire's closest approach to the Laboratory remains at two miles from the
Lab's southwestern
boundary. There is no fire danger to the Lab or townsite at this time. The
weather today through
Saturday should be fair with a few afternoon clouds. The afternoons are
expected to be warm and
breezy, with west winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour.
