SAIC Alpha Analyzer Model AP-2

We are currently using the SAIC AP-2 for field measurements of air samples,
swipes and on some occasions equipment and components. The instrument is
used only for qualitative analysis, specifically to determine the presence
of radon progeny or to differentiate between Pu and U. We would like to
broaden the application of this instrument and attempt to quantify
activities. Our primary goal is to be able to use the instrument to analyze
air samples and subtract the natural radon progeny from our gross alpha
counts so that we can accurately calculate airborne radioactivity to
determine a DAC value based only on the Pu and/or U fraction of our gross
alpha count. Has anybody used this instrument for the above mentioned
functions. Could you please contact John Miller, Kaiser-Hill LLC Rocky
Flats Environmental Technology Site. Phone: (303) 966-8076.
